Father of Four Killed in Pelican Harbor Boat Crash

Throughout summer, boat accidents and tragedies have impacted the lives of victims in the Southern region of Florida and nationwide. Sadly, the majority of boat accidents are preventable, and often caused by negligence, including drunk driving, speeding, inexperienced drivers, and recklessness. In a recent case, a Pelican Harbor boating accident resulted in the loss of a father of four. According to Miami local reports, the crash occurred on a pier that stretched into the water. The victim’s family observed the tragedy from the shore, as the boat crashed twice.

In the event of a boating accident, victims and their loved ones should consult with an independent investigator to determine the cause of the accident and identify any responsible parties. Our Fort Lauderdale boating accident attorneys are dedicated to providing strategic support to help victims protect their rights and recover just compensation following an accident on the water. According to reports, the boat crashed into the pier and then into a sea wall, ejecting the victim into the water. When rescue crews arrived, the victim, who was piloting the boat with a capacity for six passengers, was not breathing. Family members and witnesses reported the father and captain of the boat had been shuttling family members and friends from the mainland to a small island located nearby. Representatives from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported that the crash occurred around 5 in the evening.

Immediately after the accident, rescue workers arrived on scene. Officials from the Miami Fire Rescue team jumped into the water and began an extensive search. The body of the victim was pulled out of the water and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities are still investigating the crash and trying to determine whether the accident was caused by drinking, speed, or recklessness. Though this accident was tragic and cost the life of the boater, it is was fortunate that no other passengers were aboard.

Boating safety continues to be a priority for the remainder of summer and year-round. Operators as well as passengers should be aware of the dangers of drinking and boating as well as reckless boating. Unfortunately, many boaters will not understand the significant risks until it is too late. If you or someone you love has been involved in a boating accident, it is important to consult with an experienced advocate as soon as possible. Understanding the cause of the accident is the first step in obtaining financial relief and in holding responsible parties accountable.
